The Wedding Is Most Individuals' Initial Focus, But The Rehearsal Dinner Can Be Special, Too

There are countless preparations, expenses and pressures that go along with arranging a wedding day. If couples aren't careful they can get so taken in with planning the event and attempting to get all the details right that there's little time to enjoy the experience. When my niece was planning her wedding day she had three bridal showers to attend, reception plans to make and was endeavoring to find a place for the rehearsal dinner. The third shower was located at my house. I'm her godmother so I had wanted to have it be special for her. Shortly before the bridal shower we talked on the telephone. She sounded very pressured. She and her fiance were also having problems selecting the best wedding songs for the ceremony. I recommended that she get here the night before the shower and stay the night and we would kick back and I would help her organize a list of what remained to be done prior to the wedding ceremony. She thought this sounded like a great plan.

I did the majority of the preparations for the bridal shower prior to my niece coming so that we could focus on her to do list. She shared that the rehearsal dinner was her primary stress because the place they had reserved had double booked, so they needed to find a new location. We started off by working on finding the best wedding songs for the wedding ceremony so we could get one requirement out of the way thereby giving a good feeling that the other would be dealt with as well. As I thought finding the best wedding songs was just a matter of searching the internet, listening to samples, ordering and that was that. Now on to the rehearsal dinner.

The rehearsal banquet is traditionally arranged by the groom's family; the truth is a number of individuals refer to the rehearsal dinner as the groom's dinner. My niece's fiance is from out of state so his family is willing to pay for the rehearsal dinner, but they're not able to take over making the arrangements. My niece had reached out to the restaurant where the wedding reception will be located, but the only space available was the part where the wedding reception would be held. My niece said that the plan was to decorate the wedding reception area prior to going to the church for the rehearsal.

We called two local restaurants to see if they could accommodate the rehearsal dinner. Both had other happenings planned. Her fiance's parents are divorced, also both have married again. This meant that there were extra people to incorporate in the rehearsal dinner. This was also adding to her stress because she was doing her best to figure out the etiquette for seating. She had the seating chart figured out for the wedding day, but not knowing where the rehearsal dinner would be located limited her capability to plan a chart.

I asked my niece if she had called the church to look into if the fellowship area would be available. Everybody could just circulate and have a light catered meal. This would be much less formal and would be much less difficult to plan. The fellowship area was available that day. We called two delis and ordered food. My niece called her fiance and told him the new plans for the rehearsal dinner. He thought this sounded wonderful. He would make arrangements to have a pal of his tend bar and would set up for the drinks.

The rehearsal dinner was a nice relaxed evening. The guests were able to socialize and mingle and the bride and groom did not feel the need to sit in one spot while everyone ordered their food and had it served. With having a buffet line the atmosphere was very casual and the out of town guests didn't have to try and find another site in an area that they weren't familiar with.
